Haryana terminates services of 325 guest teachers, lecturers

CHANDIGARH, Feb 11, 2015

Much to the disappointment of teaching faculty, the Haryana education department has terminated the services of 325 guest teachers and lecturers employed in government schools across Haryana. This termination comes a month after the department had done away with the services of 195 guest teachers.

In an office order released to district education officers and district elementary education officers issued on Monday, the director general has reasoned that the sacked teachers are found to have been appointed in the violations of policy as well as guidelines of education department. Those sacked on Monday include the 175 guest teachers appointed in Palwal district. Two years ago, the department had placed the block education officer (BEO) of Palwal under suspension over the issue of wrong appointments. Later, the files related to appointments of these 175 teachers had gone missing.

Even as the officials in education department reiterate that those sacked were found to be appointed in the violation of rules, Haryana guest teachers association termed the government move as arbitrary while saying that the sacked teachers have been made the scapegoats.

"All this has been done as a face saving exercise. We don't support those who have been appointed in the violation of rules. But, these teachers genuinely fulfill the qualifications for appointment as teachers. Their could be few with technical issues like problems of subject combination, but this can be struck off by director general. Government has done all this in haste," Rajender Sharma Shastri, the president of Haryana guest teachers association said.

Unwilling to identified, the officials of education department categorically said that only those have been removed who are found to have been appointed in the gross violation of rules.
